Ragazzi con Jukebox, Video 9min, Hi8, Bernadette Dewald / Sabine Marte , I 1993
This video-film was produced in the course of the symposium "Il futuro della memoria / The Future of Memory" in summer 1993 in Civitella d´Agliano (Italy). Children and adolescents of a small Italian village self-display within shots of 15 seconds together with “their Jukebox”, which they move day by day in the heat of summer onto the patio of the sole bar in place. The choice of frame matches the stage-like situation of the venue bar/jukebox. An area defined by the medium of video develops and in its concretion of time the personality of the protagonists is focussed. The short intakes reflect the tension in between two media of memory and their inherent function: The posturing of the characters shift between the nostalgic pose of fotography and a (feigned) coincidence of presence in front of the video-camera. The earnest and the concentration of posturing mingle with the lightness of vacations in a southern village.
